Parent/Guardian Annual Notification Letter

91´ô¸ç provides Human Sexuality and Responsibility (HSR) instruction to students in kindergarten through high school whose parent or legal guardian provides written consent for participation.

This letter is to notify parents and legal guardians that an age-appropriate human sexuality and responsibility unit focusing on conscious, healthy, and respectful choices will be taught to all 91´ô¸ç students. The unit is taught to students in November/December for fall High School Health, and in April/May for K–8 Science classes and spring High School Health courses. Lessons for all grade levels have been revised for the 2026-2027 school year to meet the new state laws.

Parent/Guardian Permission Forms

Written parent or legal guardian consent is required before a student may participate in HSR instruction.

Permission requests are provided before instruction begins and no later than 14 days before the first day of HSR instruction. Parents and legal guardians may select one of the following options:

  1. Opt-in to all lessons - provide permission for all HSR lessons;
  2. Opt-in for individual lessons - provide permission for identified individual lessons; or
  3. Opt-out of all lessons - decline participation in HSR instruction.

Parents and legal guardians are requested to return a signed permission letter for every student, regardless of whether they choose to opt-in or opt-out.

Under Texas Education Code and Board Policy EHAA (), written parental consent is required prior to instruction. Students who do not return a form, or whose parents choose to opt them out, will not participate in (HSR lessons and will receive alternative instruction. In accordance with Board Policy EHAA (), students receiving alternative instruction "shall not be punished or embarrassed in any manner for non-participation."

Parents and guardians may preview alternative lesson materials online on the HSR Lessons & Materials webpage or by contacting their student’s school.
