Scenarios for Community Feedback View meeting schedule
91´ô¸ç is officially resuming our districtwide boundary realignment process. This vital work is focused on building aligned feeder patterns and strengthening our neighborhood schools to ensure every student has a clear, supported path from kindergarten through graduation.
By refining our boundaries, we are creating an opportunity to build stronger school communities and improve programmatic alignment. Our goal is to reduce the number of times a student cohort is split into different schools, ensuring that students can stay with their peers as they grow. Along with these aligned patterns, we are aiming for every campus to maintain a healthy-sized student population. This ensures we can maximize resources and provide robust academic opportunities at every single school across the district.
Background
91´ô¸ç initially began this effort in Spring 2025 as part of a broader school consolidation process. In November 2026, the board voted to close 10 school buildings and International High School. At that time, three schools initially proposed for closure were paused.
We are now resuming this process with a continued commitment to building strong neighborhood schools; however 91´ô¸ç is suspending any additional school closures. By narrowing our focus specifically to boundary realignment, we can minimize further community strain while prioritizing:
- Focusing on campuses with state-approved Turnaround Plans.
- Strengthening services for students receiving special education.
- Stabilizing our district budget and executing the next steps of the 2022 Bond program.
Pausing further closures allows us to dedicate our energy to supporting families through recent transitions, boosting enrollment initiatives and ensuring our academic progress remains on track.
What’s Next
We remain dedicated to a transparent process that puts the needs of our students and families first.
We will use previous boundary drafts as a starting point for this resumed work. We will begin with kick-off sessions in May followed by regional and districtwide Boundary Realignment Workshops in June. Our aim is to present the community with various options to provide feedback on so we can find the solution that works best for each community.

Scenarios for Community Feedback
Monday, June 8, 2026
We are presenting two scenarios for community feedback. These two maps ('Oak' and 'Elm') show different ideas for our schools, but nothing is final yet. Your input is a real part of how the final plan is shaped.
- The Next Step: We will use your feedback and success measure to combine the best parts of both maps into one new plan.
- Trade Offs: Sometimes great ideas clash. North Austin might prefer the Oak map, while South Austin prefers Elm. Because a change in one neighborhood affects everyone else, we won't be able to give everyone exactly what they want. We are working to find the best balance.
Expect New Ideas: The next plan will look different from what you see today. Please fill out the comment card and keep sharing your thoughts!

Resources
