Dozens of students began their first day of the inaugural 91���� Summer Internship program, in partnership with the Austin Ed Fund and the Austin Chamber. 

• The new program is in collaboration with the Travis County Summer Youth Employment Program, which has historically placed students in paid summer internships throughout the city.

Why it matters: The program will provide 36 students with work experience, skills development, and community engagement. For many it’s their first time in the workforce. 

What they’re saying:  “I think it's preparing [me] by allowing me to meet new people, and if I represent myself greatly, I'll be able to have [letters of] recommendations from other people in this company,” said Joaquin Sanchez, Akins Early College High School student. “If I meet new people and create friends with them, I'll be more inclined to do that with other people in the future.”

What’s Next: The 7-week program runs now through July 26 and places more than three dozen students in highly sought after companies and organizations across the city of Austin.

Comienza el programa inaugural de prácticas de verano del 91���� 

Docenas de estudiantes comenzaron su primer día de trabajo en el programa inaugural de Prácticas de Verano del 91����, en asociación con el Austin Ed Fund y la Cámara de Comercio de Austin. 

• El nuevo programa es en colaboración con el Programa de Empleo Juvenil de Verano del Condado de Travis, que históricamente ha colocado a estudiantes en prácticas remuneradas de verano en toda la ciudad.

Por qué es importante: El programa ofrecerá experiencia laboral, desarrollo de capacidades y compromiso con la comunidad a 36 estudiantes. Para muchos es su primera experiencia laboral.

Lo que están diciendo: “Creo que me está preparando al permitirme conocer gente nueva, y si me represento muy bien, podré tener [cartas de] recomendación de otras personas en esta empresa”, dijo Joaquín Sánchez, estudiante de la Escuela Preparatoria Akins. “Si conozco gente nueva y logro crear amistades con esas personas, estaré más dispuesto a hacer lo mismo con otras personas en el futuro”.

Lo que sigue: El programa de 7 semanas de duración se extiende desde ahora hasta el 26 de julio y coloca a más de tres docenas de estudiantes en empresas y organizaciones muy codiciadas de toda la ciudad de Austin.

• Algunos de los empleadores son JE Dunn, O'Connell Robertson y iCode Austin.
• Los estudiantes recibirán un estipendio por participar en el programa de hasta 2,000 dólares y trabajarán 20 horas a la semana.
